2024 is shaping up to be a very active year for Aurora sightings and winter is the best time to view and shoot this exciting phenomenon with long dark winter nights and crisp, clear skies.
 
Ross has many exciting features that make it an ideal place to try your hand at photographing the astro sky and aurora.
Located close to the 42nd parallel, it is deep in the pristine air of the Roaring Forties (strong westerly winds that occur in the Southern Hemisphere, generally between the latitudes of 40° and 50° south)  and the Southern Ocean, the cleanest air in the world.
The Midlands of Tasmania and Ross Village have the second lowest level of light pollution on the Bortle scale, “typical truly dark site”.class 2. (See photo)
